Starting Awareness Early – To develop compassion, empathy, pet responsibility and dog safety.

Education is a crucial component of Keysar Rescues mission to advocate for the welfare and responsible care of animals, protect them from neglect and cruelty, and promote humane awareness and compassion. We strive to share our mission and programs as well as teach younger generations about humane care for pets and safety around animals.

We believe that the prevention of animal abuse and cruelty starts with change within our society, and a key place to start is with our children, the future generation of our country.

We want to teach the next generation the importance of being kind to animals, socialising with the pets they have, what it means to be a responsible pet owner and that a pet if for life. Keysar Rescue wants to help our children understand that all creatures matter, not just those that are easy to love (the cute and fluffy ones), but all animals.

Educating children on how to be a responsible and caring friend to their pets, is a good way to reduce the number of dogs and cats in rescues. Once children understand the importance of dog and cat safety, dog bite prevention, spaying and neutering, and proper health care, they’ll become an advocate of animals in their home, schools, communities and around the country.

Many teachers are recognising the benefits of helping children form responsible habits with animals early in life. Dogs, cats, and other companion animals are a major part of modern living. Many students have at least one animal in their homes, or regularly visit homes that do. When children learn about safety with pets, animal care, adoption, and spay and neuter, they are more likely to enjoy healthy relationships with animals throughout their lives. Also, educating future animal owners is instrumental in curbing animal overpopulation and cruelty. When we create a better generation of people, we will create better lives for animals now and in the future.

Keysar Rescue offers free humane education programs for schools, churches, clubs, libraries and other venues serving children across Auckland. Our standard program lasts between 45-60 minutes, is designed for students in year 1 through year 12 and can accommodate up to 50 students per assembly. Where permitted, we may bring friendly animals to the program. Keysar Rescue addresses:

Meeting the basic needs of companion animals

Ways to interact with pets safely and responsibly

The importance of showing kindness and respect to animals

Exploring the work of Keysar Rescue and our mission

Animal welfare issues, such as understanding the five animal welfare needs

Animal welfare issues often arise because people don’t know the best ways to look after different kinds of pets. Owning a pet can and should be a beautiful experience.
